A stimulating and secure environment,
an understanding and compassionate staff.
We know what a difference strong family bonds can
make. One of our program goals is to maintain and strengthen the resident's relationships
with family members. Family members participate in orientation sessions that outline our
program and our approach to developing individualized plans of care. Friends and family
are encouraged to participate in care planning and evaluation. We count on their
understanding, guidance, support and practical advice.
The program is administered by a full time
director. All members of the health care team have received extensive training in meeting
the needs of older adults and those who suffer from Alzheimer's and related disorders. Our
philosophy is one of minimizing the use of restraints and medication. As a result, we are
almost completely restraint free. Instead we help residents stay active which is a key
ingredient to keeping their minds alert. Because habits often replace memory, evertyday
tasks are included in our activity-based program. Activities are designed to inspire
enthusiasm and give purpose to life. Our seven-day-a-week program includes cooking
classes, exercise, music, recreation and pet therapy.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the
general community through social events and special outings. A wheelchair accessible van
is available for just such occasions.
The Alzheimer's disease program of Bethany Terrace
is located within Bethany Terrace Nursing Centre.
Residents receive personal attention, and a full range of services in a familiar and
secure setting. Our dieticians develop menus that reflect personal habits and preferences.
Rehabilitative therapy programs help residents achieve their full health potential.
Accommodations are large enough for residents to
add personal touches to the furnishings, which they are encouraged to do. All
accommodations have centrally located emergency call systems, so help is always within
reach. Other amenities include fitness and walking trails, an aviary, a beauty/barber
shop, a chapel, a crafts center and a resident art gallery.
In addition to our three lanes dedicated to the
care of middle and late stage dementia residents, we have Friendship
Lane, an early stage dementia unit. |
